The 8 laws of health are summed up in the acronym: NEWSTART, which stands for:
N-Proper Nutrition
E-Exercise
W-Water
S-Sunshine
T-Temperance. (Avoiding bad habits and doing in moderation those things that are wholesome)
A-Fresh Air
R-Rest
T-Trust in God
Heart-Healthy South of the Border Menu
Spanish Rice
Refried Beans
Tortillas
Salsa
Guacamole
‘Cheesey’ Sauce
Shredded Lettuce
Spanish Rice
2 C Water
2 C Salsa
1 tsp salt
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
dash of paprika (optional)
2 C rice
Put all ingredients into a medium pan, bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook for 45min on low. (perfect for a rice cooker as well)
Refried Beans
2 C dried pinto beans
2 qts water
1 onion (onion powder ok)
4-5 garlic cloves (garlic powder ok)
1-2 tsp salt
1Tbsp oil
1 2oz can of dice green chiles (optional)
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp onion powder
Soak beans for at least 8 hrs prior. Pour off the water that it was soaked in. Cook first 4 ingredients in crock pot overnight. When the beans are soft add your salt.
In a large hot pan put your oil, green chiles, and beans (processed in food processor or mashed with a potato masher) and cook together
Then add your cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder to your beans
Guacamole
2 medium avocados, peeled and quarted
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 C lemon juice
1/2 to 1 jar of (Herdez) salsa (optional for more flavor)
Blend one avocado and the rest of the ingredients till creamy. Mash the other avocado in a bowl then add the blended ingredients.
‘Cheesey’ Sauce
1/2 C cashews
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp sea salt
1/4 C corn starch (organic)
1/4 C Mezzetta peppers
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 can coconut milk
2 C water
1 jar Herdez mild salsa (hotter if you desire)
Place first 6 ingredients in blender with the water from the coconut milk and blend till creamy. Then add the rest of the coconut milk and water. Pour into pan and add the jar of Herdez, cook over medium heat till thick
You may choose to make your own homemade tortillas and/or salsa or purchase whole grain tortillas and vinegar free salsa in the store.
